Ginza Aster opened in 1926 at Ginzaiicchome, the birthplace of Tokyo's world renown Ginza district. Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa moved his mint from Shizuoka to Edo in 1612, Daimyo and their Samurai from West Japan marched down this avenue on their way to the Edo Capitol for their alternating six month Sankin Kotai responsibilities, 70 percent of the area was lost to fire in 1872 and the Meiji government decided to build comparatively fire resistant Western style brick buildings along this avenue making it the first Western style road in Japan. Those seeking information and knowledge began to gather in this cutting edge area and up came various restaurants and shopping facilities to meet their food and entertainment demands. Stores where independent vendors displayed merchandise down the sides of a long aisle awed shoppers as the precursor to modern Ginza Department Stores and "Ginbura" a close translation would be "Ginza Window Shopping" became all the rage. As the first American Style Chop Suey restaurant, Ginza Aster opened its doors and added to the eclectic ambience of the day. Over the years, Ginza Aster has been the location of choice for special occasions among Japanese in the know, those who want excellent Chinese cuisine perfectly tailored to the Japanese palate and sensibility. Ginza Aster boasts 38 restaurants in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama and Nagoya and these restaurants are the only places in the world where guests can sample a mix of Chinese food using the freshest and highest quality ingredients and with a nod to the palate and presentation demands of Japanese clientele. The Honten Flagship Restaurant in Ginza Iicchome (just near the Apple Store) offers a perfectly appointed tea room and waiting lounge on the ground floor with a lovely dining area for lunch or dinner up above. Visit Ginza Aster for a change of pace in dining during your time in Japan and learn why so many Japanese people cherish memories of food, family and fun from this landmark eatery.
Lunch averages around 4500 yen per person (approx. 50 USD) and dinner averages from 10,000 yen (approx. 100 USD) per person. We look forward to serving you!
