Ballyclare is a British designer, manufacturer and distributor of high quality, functional workwear, protective clothing and specialist PPE and has been supplying customers for over 100 years – building a reputation as one of the UK’s leading workwear suppliers.

We currently supply over 27,000 firefighters in the UK with structural and specialist firefighting kit and are trusted suppliers of highly technical garments and protective clothing for the emergency services, HM Prison Service and armed forces. We proudly hold the Royal Warrant for the supply of Specialist Fire Protective Clothing By Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen through supplying firefighting suits to the Windsor Castle Fire Service.

Other organisations that use our technical protective workwear include Network Rail, An Post, Babcock International Group, London Underground and Mercedes-Benz in the automotive, rail and utility industries.

Our Customer Service and Design teams are based at our Head Office in Stockport with our National Distribution Centre in Yorkshire which handles in-house embroidery, personalisation and made to measure requests. Our Account Management team is made up of dedicated sector specific representatives who are on hand to look after our customers and any bespoke requirements.

We also offer a fully managed service encompassing garment supply, leasing, repair and laundering that takes safety to a new level. Within the managed service our state-of-the-art RFID tracking system ensures all items of firefighting kit can be tracked and managed efficiently and responsively, ensuring personnel are equipped with garments that are fit-for-purpose at all times.

We work closely with some of the world’s most innovative organisations to ensure our workwear is manufactured with the best fabrics and technology available. We have built a strong partnership with W.L. Gore and Associates (UK) Limited, renowned for their GORE® PARALLON™ System and GORE-TEX® Fabrics, to create technologically advanced workwear garments for all industries and the emergency services. Through forming a close partnership Ballyclare and Gore are able to develop highly technical garments which are specifically designed for extreme working conditions such as our Xenon structural firefighter clothing and Network Rail waterproof garments. Both companies know meeting, and exceeding, the end user’s requirements is key to designing desired, high performing garments.

Ballyclare Limited was one of the first companies in our industry to attain ISO 9001 quality management system accreditation. We also hold Article 11B for the manufacture of complex PPE and run our business to ISO 14001 environmental management standards. We are an Associate Member of the Chief Fire Officers Association and a member of the Fire Industry Association. UVDB is ‘Utilities Vendor Data Base’ and RISQS is ‘Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme’ are used by prospective customers to check suppliers have the relevant qualifications and experience before contacting them with tender opportunities. Ballyclare is a signatory to the Prompt Payment Code (PPC). Code signatories undertake to pay suppliers on time within the terms agreed at the outset of the contract, give clear guidance to suppliers and encourage good practice. Signing up to the PPC is another example of Ballyclare’s strong commitment to its Corporate and Social Responsibility goals as well as its ongoing drive to become a great company to do business with.
