About Us

The inspiration behind Gifts for Angels began after what can only be described as every parent’s worst nightmare. My eldest daughter Lola was 2 years 8 months old, full of fun and the most adorable little girl I had ever seen. On Tuesday 21st March 2006 Lola was diagnosed with a brain tumour and on Wednesday 22nd March 2006 she passed away...

There are no words to describe the pain my husband and I go through each and every day. Life has never and will not ever be the same again. Visiting Lola’s grave has been impossible at times but I always got increasingly disheartened by the lack of items that were appropriate to put down for her at her place of rest, especially on her birthday or anniversary. The usual grave vases were all so dark and dismal, normal toys would just blow away or deteriorate after a few days due to weather conditions. Statues were incredibly expensive plus needed to be mounted on granite blocks, adding to the cost. I was unable to find anything colourful, inexpensive, durable and able to withstand harsh weather conditions. I wanted something that was bright, beautiful and fun, just as Lola was, and this motivated me to start Gifts for Angels, in the hope of being able to offer others this little piece of comfort.

All the grave ornaments have been designed by myself and my nephew Samson Hall. They are hand-made in Sri Lanka, my parents’ home country, so much time has been taken to find the right factory and ensure all workers are not only paid fairly but that their working conditions and civil rights are taken seriously.

It has taken me a long time to find the courage to set up this business, but it has given me a positive focus, one that I am very grateful for. To all of you that have lost ones so precious to you I offer you my deepest sympathy and I wish you strength.

Lola died from a brain tumour called “Ependymoblastoma”. It turns out that this type of tumour affects only very young children, 1 out of 1 million. A percentage of profits made will go to the charity ‘Brain Tumour Research’, registered charity no. 1093411.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of UK children and those under 40 years. They affect anyone and cannot be prevented because their cause is unknown. Only 12% males and 15% females survive beyond 5 years. Research is the only way.
