steirischer herbst initiates, produces and presents current positions of contemporary and internationally relevant art, discussing them in a wide variety of ways. The festival’s mission lies in discovering and producing new art, linking aesthetic positions and theoretical discourse, involving and networking international and regional artists, scenes and contexts. All of this, but above all its interdisciplinary approach, makes the herbst festival unique – for 50 years now, steirischer herbst has been one of the few festivals of contemporary art anywhere in the world that is truly multi-disciplinary by its nature.
